How long is a piece of string?

How long is a piece of string?

Hi,

Potential bike purchaser here (depending on work and a few other things).

I was speaking to someone in a bike shop today (I wont name the place), but they advised me that I might not be spending enough on the bike I was intrested in, and that i’d end up on a bike with "high mileage"… and when I asked what was high I was told… ahm… well … ahm… look over there…

So… context…
Potential first time biker looking for bike to cope with a 250km / week commute. I’ve been reccomended to consider a Honda Deauville. I’ve read enough comments that there are people on here who consider them dull, but for what I’ve in mind, that suits fine (I’m 40+ btw).
My budget is probably 2500-2800 with a definite upper max of 3k.
I want to go for something 600cc+ so I can use it for my full A license / test etc.
I’m not stuck on the idea of a deauville but I do want something with some kind of storage (laptop lunch etc).

So I suppose what I want to know is what constitutes "high milage" for the kind of bike I’d be looking at…hence the piece of string question.

thanks…

fbf.
